Getting There
How to reach Engelberg:
Engelberg can be reached from Lucerne easily by train in one hour. This ride is covered by the Swiss Pass.
The Journey:
The journey starts from Lucerne, which is the closest point to Mount Titlis. On reaching Engelberg by train, the mode of transportation changes from rail tracks to cable cars. From Engelberg, the journey is made by 3 aerial cable cars through many changes of scenery from the green valley up into the high alpine glacier region in only 45 minutes
Stand (8'000 ft) - Titlis (3'020 m / 10'000 feet): Spectacular view of glacier crevasses and ice falls directly from the ROTAIR, the first revolving aerial cable car in the world. Shortly after the journey begins, the cabin floor starts to revolve. 75 passengers, standing on a turntable, experience the high-alpine scenery not only linearly but also circularly. 5 passengers can stand in the middle on a fixed podium, which does not revolve. The ascents and descents are transformed into a superbly attractive multi-dimensional experience.
Rotair - first revolving cable car in the world:
Three different cable cars will take the visitors into eternal snow and ice on the top of Mount Titlis. The final cable car to the peak is the Rotair. During the journey, the floor of the cable car rotates once around its own axis. At 3020 meters above sea level the air is the purest and at this altitude people can see as far as the Black Forest in Germany.
